Origin

Sardina d.o.o. traces back to 1907 in Postira, on the island of Brač — one of roughly sixty canneries that sprang up along the Adriatic coast between 1861 and 1909, the golden era when Yugoslavia (and later Croatia) ranked among the world's largest canned-fish producers. Unlike many peers that were absorbed into larger groups or shut down as the industry contracted after the 1960s, Sardina has stayed independent and vertically integrated, running its own fishing fleet since 1957 and its own mariculture operation since 1996 — catching, farming, and canning under one roof.

Today the company sells its canned range under the Adriatic Queen brand: sardines in vegetable oil, olive oil, tomato sauce, and vegetable preparations, alongside tuna, mackerel, hake, and fish pâtés. About 70% of production is exported to more than twenty countries, including a spring-water sardine pack made specifically for Canada. Pricing sits at ordinary supermarket level rather than gourmet — a workaday Adriatic staple rather than a boutique tin.
