Notable facts

Origin

Thai Union Group was founded in Samut Sakhon in March 1977 as Asian Pacific Thai Tuna Co., Ltd., and grew over five decades into one of the world's largest seafood companies, listing on the Stock Exchange of Thailand in 1994 and rebranding to its current name in 2015.

Rather than selling seafood under its own corporate name, Thai Union operates as a holding company for a large portfolio of acquired and licensed consumer brands — including Chicken of the Sea in the US, John West in the UK and Ireland, Petit Navire in France, King Oscar, and Ayam Brand across Southeast Asia — alongside private-label and OEM canning for retailers worldwide. A direct check of its own website and newsroom in July 2026 turned up no evidence of a sardine product, or any product, marketed under the "Thai Union" name itself.
