Origin

Kerbriant traces back to a cannery originally created in 1986 at Cap Sizun, on the tip of Finistère. In 2000 the Le Gal family acquired the business and relocated it to Douarnenez — the historic capital of French sardine canning — to be closer to the day's fish landings.

The conserverie is run as a genuine family operation: Marc Le Gal leads the business, his wife Véronique manages the shop and conducts visitor tours, and their children Céline and Cédric help prepare the recipes, with everyone pitching in on the production line when needed. Kerbriant markets itself as the last artisanal, family-run cannery still operating in Douarnenez, sourcing its fish through responsible fishing practices and selling largely through its own boutique and site visits.
